Our history.
From a dream in 1998 to a leading bilingual school for southern Thailand.
From a dream to a leading institution for quality youth.
Pholwitaya Bilingual School (PBS) was established in 1998, driven by the vision of Dr. Aimpitha Chittsena, who recognised the importance of strengthening English language skills alongside high-quality academic education in southern Thailand.
Determined to develop a school that seamlessly integrates global perspectives with Thai cultural identity, Dr. Aimpitha visited several prestigious educational institutions before deciding to establish a bilingual school. Her initiative aimed to give students a natural learning environment for a second language while ensuring a strong academic foundation and preserving Thai values and traditions.
The school's mission has stayed remarkably consistent for 28 years: prepare students to be happy adults — confident in two languages, curious about the world, grounded in good values.
Curriculum integration with the world.
PBS places great emphasis not only on rigorous academic curricula but also on nurturing students' mental wellbeing through its Mindfulness policy. This approach instills positive thinking and builds emotional resilience, ensuring students are ready to learn and thrive in all aspects of life.
The school collaborates with renowned institutions including Canberra, Australia and Stamford, Singapore to integrate its curriculum with Thailand's Ministry of Education standards. Students acquire academic excellence while naturally developing proficiency in English and other foreign languages from an early age.
PBS receives academic support from the International Schools Association and the Bilingual Schools Association of Thailand to ensure its curriculum meets the highest standards in both Thai and English education.
Twenty-eight years of bilingual education.
A short timeline of how the school has grown — and the values that have stayed constant.
The beginning
PBS opens its doors as the first bilingual school in Hat Yai, founded by Dr. Aimpitha Chittsena on Pethkasem Road.
National recognition
The school earns the prestigious Royal School Award for academic and pastoral excellence — recognised at the national level.
21st century partnerships
Adopts the Oxford International Curriculum, partners with the University of Turku (Finland) for Eduten Finland Math, and works with Prince of Songkla University on Active Learning.
Passing the legacy
PBS serves girls and boys from Nursery through Year 9, with a growing alumni network in Thailand and abroad — and the same mission as day one.
A mission to create positive change.
PBS has formed partnerships with leading universities locally and internationally to develop curricula that meet the demands of the 21st century. This includes adopting the Oxford International Curriculum and collaborating with the University of Turku in Finland to implement the Eduten Finland Math program. PBS also works with Prince of Songkla University to develop an Active Learning curriculum focused on creative thinking and hands-on learning for sustainable education.
With a clear vision to prepare students for the interconnected and diverse world of the 21st century, PBS inspires and equips students with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to succeed. The school fosters balanced development in physical, emotional, and intellectual aspects through innovative teaching approaches — including the Active Thinking system, a creative and practical learning method designed to nurture future leaders with academic excellence and a strong sense of social responsibility.
Today, the legacy continues. Dr. Aimpitha's daughters now contribute to the next chapter — leading PBS into the future while honouring the values their mother established in 1998.
